joeheywood asked: What do you think of parents that punish a son for masturbation
I understand that they are only doing what they think is moral and good, having been taught that masturbation is at the height of moral depravity; however, I firmly believe that it is the responsibility of the Church to learn from its mistakes, rather than hiding them, to acknowledge scientific discovery and newer, broader definitions of what is, in fact, “natural”, and to educate its laity on the evolving nature of human understanding.
Parents who punish their children for masturbation are encouraging sexual rebellion and a misuse of the human sexual identity, as their child will not be prepared to express their own sexuality in an honest and respectful way. They are endorsing old and truly depraved opinions of sex, which hold masturbation to be unhealthy and disordered, when science demonstrates as a matter of fact that masturbation is healthy when done properly. These parents need to be educated and brought into this modern age, with our more reasonable understanding of the world and her workings.
Be blessed.
